This Restoration and Service record describes the process we used to restore a 1997 Land Cruiser to mint condition.

The 80 Series Land Cruiser earned its reputation the hard way — on continents where a breakdown is a serious problem. This one arrived at our shop with 243,417 miles behind it, a great deal of hard use in its history, and a great deal of life still ahead of it.

Thirty separate service operations were performed. The engine and transmission were removed; the frame, axle housings, and driveline were addressed with the body and running gear off the truck. In practical terms, everything that turns, stops, steers, or carries load on this vehicle is new or rebuilt.

Wherever a genuine Toyota part exists, a genuine Toyota part was used. Where the factory piece was the weak point — steering box, birfields, brakes, gearing — it was replaced with a purpose-built upgrade rather than a like-for-like part.
